In the current landscape of rapid logistics advancement, there is a growing public appreciation for the safety, environmental sustainability, and other qualities of transportation packaging. Addressing the increasing environmental standards while minimizing delivery costs from manufacturers to end-users, and maximizing product value, has emerged as a pressing challenge to be addressed.
As the leading e-commerce platform in the United States, Amazon introduced the ISTA 6-AMAZON.COM packaging and transportation standard in 2016 to enhance product transportation safety and reduce distribution costs. A technical update in 2018 mandated that certain products meeting specific size and weight criteria undergo certification for compliance with the Ships in Own Container (SIOC) standard. Failure to obtain certification by September 17, 2019, would result in a refund penalty of $1.99 per product.
